Jesus says: Come to Me

Feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus

Matthew 11.25-28, Luke 10.21-22

From his Sacred Heart in the hearing of those who would open their hearts to his, our Lord Jesus addresses these words to the Father:

“I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children. Yes, Father for this is what it pleased you to do.”

Jesus continues speaking as if to himself, no doubt for his Father to hear, but also for the ‘mere children’. He says:

“Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

With his love piercing our human hearts, Jesus then speaks not only to mere children but to all who labour and are overburdened. He says:

“Come to me….and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden light.”

For Prayer

Sacred Heart of Jesus, here I am with my life and work. I allowed so much to overburden me. I could have come to you for rest. From your gentle and humble heart, lay now your yoke upon me. Refresh me in your rest. For the times and works ahead, address to me your invitation:

“Come to me.”
