DEVOTIONAL FRIENDSHIP – with God / Part 3 of 4

Reading about young Samuel in 1st Samuel Chapter 3 reveals his simple pathway to divine and prayerful intimacy. How about taking a deep new dive yourself into sacred scriptures? In search of similar material for fruitful meditation. Much wisdom, teaching, and spiritual experience are recorded in the Hebrew scriptures, all looking forward to the coming of a ‘Promise’. Gospel stories centre on the person of Jesus Christ. Many are from the personal testimony of his disciples, not only for edification but especially to draw disciples of all generations into an authentic following of Our Lord.

Suggestion Look into the Sacred Scriptures for other stories, events, parables, teachings wherein hidden prayer pearls are waiting to be found. Record them in diaries, share them, and pray them.

For starters try these:
Matthew: When they saw him, they worshipped him, even though some of them doubted.
Jesus: Remember I am with you to the end of time. Matthew 28: 16—20 *

Thomas: Lord, we do not know where you are going; so how can we know the way?
Jesus: I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life John 14: 4,5,6 *

The book of Psalms is the hymnbook and prayer book of the Bible. It is also a prayer book of the Church. In the psalms are many great one-liners.

Saint Therese of Lisieux admitted: “Sometimes when I am in such a state of spiritual dryness that not a single good thought occurs to me, I say very slowly the ‘Our Father’ or the ‘Hail Mary’, and these prayers take me out of myself, and wonderfully refresh me.”
